What a Typical Day at Treehouse Actually Looks Like

One of the most common questions families ask before their child starts at Treehouse is: what will my child actually be doing all day? It is a fair question, and the honest answer is that the day is structured, predictable, and full. Here is exactly what it looks like.

What Time Does Treehouse Open and What Happens First?

Treehouse opens at 6:30am Monday to Friday, 52 weeks of the year. From 6:30am to 8:30am, children gather in the Pre-Toddler room for breakfast and integrated play. This early morning period brings children from different age groups together in a relaxed, unhurried way before the structured program day begins. It is a deliberate design choice: a gentle start that eases children in rather than launching them straight into a busy program.

From 8:00am to 8:30am, children transition to their own rooms. Each of the six rooms corresponds to one program and one age group: Infants, Waddlers, Pre-Toddler, Toddlers, Kindy, and Pre-School. This is the space where your child will spend the majority of their day, with their educators and with the peers they are building relationships with over time.

What Does the Middle of the Day Look Like?

From 9:00am to 9:30am, each room has group time: a focused coming-together of the children and their educators. This might involve a story, a song, a conversation about the day's focus, or a shared exploration of an idea or question that has emerged from the children's play.

Morning tea follows from 9:30am to 10:00am. From 10:00am to 11:00am, each room runs its programmed activities: educator-designed experiences built around the current learning focus and the interests of the children in that group. This is the heart of the play-based program, the hour where the most intentional, educator-supported learning happens.

Lunch is from 11:00am to 12:00pm, followed by rest time beginning at 12:30pm. Children who need sleep are supported to sleep. Children who do not sleep engage in quiet activities. From 12:30pm to 2:00pm, activities continue for non-sleeping children and those who wake during the rest period.

What Happens in the Afternoon?

The afternoon follows a similarly structured rhythm. From 2:00pm to 2:30pm, children transition from rest time to table activities. Afternoon tea runs from 2:30pm to 3:00pm, followed by another programmed and child-led activity period from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. A late snack is served from 4:30pm to 5:00pm, and from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, children move into integrated play and wind-down as families begin arriving for pick-up.

The centre closes at 6:30pm. Families collecting after this time are subject to the late collection fee of $50 for the first 15 minutes and $2 per minute thereafter. This is standard practice and exists because the centre is required to maintain staff ratios until every child has been collected.

Why Does a Predictable Routine Matter for Young Children?

Young children feel safe when they know what is coming next. A predictable daily routine reduces anxiety, supports settling, and gives children the security they need to take on the challenges of learning and social engagement. When a child knows that lunch follows group time and rest follows lunch, they are not spending energy anticipating the unknown. They can direct that energy toward play, exploration, and connection instead.
